Slipknot names new album, preps for tour

Michael has final say on Wham! film

George Michael will have the final say on the production of a movie about the career of Wham!

The pop group's former manager Simon Napier-Bell wants to create a big screen documentary about Wham! It will be based between the years 1983 and 1985.

Napier-Bell told ITV: "There are several people sniffing around my Wham! film, but I'm not sure any of them will come off because they all require Wham! music in them and George controls that.

"He will have the yes or not on each script presented. George would want control."

Wham! scored two number one albums and six number one singles in the 1980s. Their hits included 'Careless Whisper', 'Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go' and 'I'm Your Man'.

Tift Merritt keeps working the road

Alt-country songstress Tift Merritt [ tickets ] continues backing her third album, "Another Country," with tour dates that go deep into October. Her jaunt includes a June 12 stop on "The Late Show With David Letterman," during which she'll back Emmylou Harris, and a return appearance on June 25 with her own band. Merritt will also hit the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the Grand Ole Opry's outdoor plaza, as well as the Camayo Cruise with Lyle Lovett, Patty Griffin, John Hiatt and Shawn Colvin. Details are posted below.Merritt won critical acclaim for her 2002 debut, "Bramble Rose," and scored a Grammy nomination in 2004 for her sophomore set, "Tambourine." After nearly four years of nonstop touring behind those albums, she retreated to a flat with a piano in Paris where she penned songs for "Another Country," her debut for Fantasy Records. High school buddies Chris Brady and Charlie Campbell resettled from their hometown of Juneau, AK, to Portland, OR, in 1989. Two years afterwards, they recruited drummer Dave Triebwasser (ex-Thrillhammer) and formed Pond. They were quickly signed to Sub Pop, and their eponymic 1993 debut album gibe nicely into the Pacific Northwest grime move that was bossy popular music. But with their short hair and earnest songs, Pond ne'er quite fit into the grease scene and they struggled to win notoriety away of Portland and Seattle, where they had in fact become quite popular. Their second Sub Pop record album, 1995's The Practice of Joy Before Death, brought a darker sound, just non a wider audience. Despite their modified winnow base, decisive acclaim was building, and finally Pond would become one of many gumptious bands to sign to a major tag. That label was Sony's WORK Group, and Pond's fantastic major debut Rock Collection appeared in 1997 to often critical praise only a collective yawn from consumers. Glastonbury 2008 weather forecast - two weeks to go

Early weather forecasts are of mixed conditions at this year's Glastonbury Festival, but it could still be the driest for years.

According to Metcheck.com, the weather will be sunny in the days leading up to the festival, which takes place at Worthy Farm on June 27-29, but some rain is expected in the early hours of Friday (27) morning.

This should clear up by the afternoon, however, and it's believed the weather will remain sunny for the rest of the day and all of Saturday (28).

Sunday (29) is shaping up to be the worst day weather-wise, with showers predicted for the afternoon and evening, so ticket-holders should still take wellies.

The festival is being headlined by Jay-Z, The Verve and Kings of Leon.

Kim Cattrall tried her hardest to avoid Sarah Jessica Parker at the after party for the Sex and The City movie premiere in London earlier this week — fueling rumors of a rift between the two co-stars.

While Kristin Davies and Cynthia Nixon mingled with the guests, including Kelly Rowland, Kim and Sarah stuck to their separate VIP areas all evening.

A source said: “It was pretty strange.

“They made such a show of unity on the red carpet earlier.”

Angelina Jolie - Jolie Feels For Bumbling Black Over Baby News Blunder

ANGELINA JOLIE feels sorry for KUNG FU PANDA co-star JACK BLACK after he accidentally went public with the actress' baby news during a TV interview.

The funnyman thought it was common knowledge that Jolie was expecting twins and joked about the fact during an interview with a U.S. TV show at the Cannes Film Festival in France last month (May08).

His remarks sparked an international media frenzy - because they led to Jolie, who was sitting next to Black, to confirm the baby news.

She says, "Poor Jack! Immediately when he saw (my partner) Brad Pitt, he apologised. But we both told him very clearly that we had only waited... until all results are in on their (twins) health, and that we were past that point."

Jolie insists she had no problems with Black blurting out the news: "If somebody had asked me directly (if I was pregnant with twins), I would have said yes, so he didn't do anything but take the heat himself."

Breeders Sisters Go Doublemint at Birthday Show

“They’re like Doublemint gum,” a middle-aged man spouted excitedly at the Breeders’ Webster Hall show last night. “How do you tell them apart?” It was an annoying joke from a sloppy drunk, but the comment did touch on the night’s special symmetry: Front-lady sisters Kim and Kelley Deal were celebrating their (47th) birthdays — which means, for the astrologically disinclined, that they are not only twins, but also Geminis, whose astrological symbol represents the twin. The show reunited loving sisters (both in plain black shirts) with adoring fans and paired thrumming distortion with delicate hush, jokey asides with harrowing songs. The music — which included a grab bag of covers, “Happiness Is a Warm Gun” among them — was tight and fast but thankfully not quite neat and clean; it was often tough to make out what Kim (and less so Kelly) was singing. But we all heard her loud and clear when she announced, ostensibly to the violinist friend who joined them onstage, “You know my mom’s got the Alzheimer’s … You saw her last summer, right? She’s way worse now.” It was a testament to the night’s all-around openness of feeling that Kim’s boozy admission somehow fit right into the celebratory (first) encore. Encore two culminated in an audience rendition of “Happy Birthday” and the bringing out of a cake. Grinning wide, Kim flipped everyone the bird — with both hands. —Nick Catucci
